Drink Your Salad

Do you ever feel like you want to add more greens to your life, but making a huge salad every day takes too much time to both prepare and eat? Same here. That’s where this green salad juice comes in. It includes a whole head of romaine lettuce, as well as other fruits and veggies, more than I could possibly eat in one sitting. It’s green, but thanks to the apples, also has a hint of sweetness, making it one of my favorite go-to juices.

The Benefits of Juicing

Juicing allows me to increase my nutrient intake and satisfy my sweet tooth all at once (don’t get me wrong, I also love cookies!). It’s an excellent and very easy way to incorporate healthy eating habits and it can help you feel more energized. Because the fiber is removed, you can include much more produce than when making a smoothie (in a smoothie, the ingredients are blended, whereas in a juice, the liquid is extracted and the fiber removed).

This can also be great for people who have digestive issues and can’t digest too much fiber. For everyone else, combining juicing with other wholesome and fiber-rich meals for an overall balanced diet is ideal. If you’re new to juicing, check out my top 10 tips for beginners.

Choosing the right Juicer

In order to get the most nutrients and juice out of your produce, a cold-press slow juicer is best. The one I personally use and love is the Nama well J2 Juicer, which I’ve had for almost a year now. Before that, I used the J1 juicer from the same brand, which was also excellent (you can use our affiliate code BOV10 to get 10% off all juicers here.)

What You’ll Need to Make this Green Salad Juice

  • Romaine lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Celery
  • Green Apples
  • Parsley
  • Cucumber

How to make this Green Salad Juice

All you need to do to make this green salad juice is wash your produce, add it to your juicer, juice it, and voilà, simple as that!

How to adapt this Green Salad Juice recipe

Make is greener

Two apples give this green salad juice the perfect sweetness for my taste, but if you want to make it even greener and don’t mind a juice that’s not sweet, feel free to remove one or even both apples and replace them with the juice of one lemon. If you want the same volume of juice, simply add 1 to 2 extra cucumbers to the recipe.

Maker it sweeter

If it’s not sweet enough for your taste, simply add another apple or other fruit like 1/4 pineapple or one or two pears

Ingredient alternatives

  • Instead of romaine lettuce, you can use any type of lettuce or more spinach.
  • Instead of spinach, you can use kale.
  • Instead of celery, you can use fennel.
  • Instead of green apples, you can use pears, pineapple, or carrots (which will slightly alter the color of the juice).
  • Instead of parsley, you can use mint or basil (or simply omit.
  • Instead of cucumber, you can use more lettuce.

Storage Tips

Juice is best enjoyed right away, but if you do prepare it in advance, make sure you store it in the fridge in (preferably) an airtight container, like a BPA free bottle or glass jar with a lid. Because it’s so fresh, make sure you consume it within 24-72 hours max.

Tip: If you have tons of produce that you don’t want to waste, you can also freeze your juice in an ice cube tray, which will allow you to keep it for much longer!
