Why You’ll Love this Recipe

Milk Tart, a South African cheesecake-like dessert, is, as its name suggests, traditionally made with milk. In order to veganize this recipe, we’re going to use a mix of coconut cream and vegan cream cheese (or, alternatively, cashews). Whether you’re vegan, plant-based, dairy-free, or simply looking for a dessert idea, you’ll love this recipe because it’s creamy, sweet, and delicious.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Vegan puff pastry
  • Coconut cream
  • Vegan cream cheese, see note below (or cashew butter, or soaked cashews)
  • Cornstarch
  • Golden syrup (or brown sugar)
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon sugar

NOTE: make sure you use a vegan cream cheese that is either soy- or nut-based. Some dairy-free cream cheeses that are oil based (mostly coconut oil based), don’t preserve their texture while baking, which might not result in the desired recipe outcome.
