What is a French Toast?

French toast is a classic and delicious breakfast dish made by soaking thick slices of bread in a mixture of whole milk, large eggs, and vanilla extract. The key to amazing French toast lies in using the right ingredients and following the steps for getting a delicious breakfast. Once dipped in the batter, cook the bread on a pan until golden brown for the perfect texture.

The best part is its versatility; you can drizzle it with maple syrup, sprinkle powdered sugar, or add fresh berries. And you can use any type of bread you want. French toast can be prepared in advance, making it a convenient breakfast option.

The classic French toast recipe uses egg, but as this is a vegan recipe, we’ll use a replacer. The great thing is that it tastes the same! You’ll have that eggy bread consistency and can be enjoyed for a long time. If you’ve already tried a classic recipe and want something different, you are in the right place!

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Vegan bread slices
  • Strawberries
  • Vegan cream cheese
  • Pure maple syrup
  • Plant-based egg mixture
  • Powdered sugar or brown sugar
  • pure cane sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Almond milk
  • Vegan butter

How To Make This French Toast

Step 1: Fuse Maple Syrup, Cane Sugar, and Half Fresh Fruit

  • Put maple syrup, organic pure cane sugar, half of the strawberries into a blender, and blend well. Once completely blended, put syrup to the side.
  • In a bowl, put your cream cheese, pure cane sugar, and the other half of strawberries and blend together. Your strawberry cream sauce should still be thick but also smooth. Once done blending, put it back into the refrigerator for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Create Custard Mixture, Evenly Spread Cream Cheese

  • In another mixing bowl, put your plant-based eggs, almond milk, and cinnamon, and mix until milk and cinnamon are blended with plant-based eggs.
  • Take your heavy cream mix, take a scoop of it, and spread it evenly over one slice of bread. You can add more based on how much thickness you want inside of your French toast but don’t forget to spread it evenly.
  • Take another slice and gently place it on top of the other slice you just put the cream cheese mix on.

Step 3: Searing and Dressing the Bread

  • Get out a skillet and put medium heat.
  • Put a teaspoon of melted butter in the pan (you can also use avocado oil spray if you prefer). Make sure to use a hot skillet.
  • Dip the bread with the cream cheese mix into the bowl with the plant based eggs, almond milk and cinnamon.
  • Make sure every inch of the bread is covered then put in the skillet and cook on each side for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, plate your toast, and don’t forget to add the strawberry syrup you made earlier. Add a dusting of powder sugar on top. Enjoy a perfect french toast!
