Protein Strawberry Sorbet
This protein strawberry sorbet is the perfect summer treat, snack, or even post workout meal! It’s made with a juicer (but instructions on how to make it without one are included as well) and requires very little prep work. Follow along to learn how to make this sorbet recipe in just a few steps.

What is protein sorbet?
Just like regular sorbet, protein sorbet is a fruit-based dairy-free alternative to regular ice cream. In addition to fresh fruit, this protein sorbet also includes added plant protein in the form of Greek-style dairy-free yogurt and plant-based protein powder. Combining the natural sweetness of strawberries with these protein rich ingredients makes this sorbet a delicious, healthier alternative to ice cream.
Ingredient Overview & Notes

- Greek-Style Dairy-Free Yogurt: Greek-style dairy-free yogurt typically contains more protein than other kinds of dairy-free yogurt, but you can, of course, also use a different variety of dairy-free yogurt or even coconut cream. I would not recommend using plant milk, however, as that might be too thin and result in a much less creamy sorbet.
- Plant-Based Protein Powder: Use any kind of plant-based protein powder, such as an unflavored and unsweetened one. If you’re using a flavored variety, be sure it goes well with strawberry (such as peanut butter or vanilla).
- Maple Syrup: if your yogurt and protein powder are unsweetened, I recommend adding a little maple syrup to make the strawberry sorbet a little sweeter. If they are sweetened, however, feel free to either omit the maple syrup or add it to taste.
- Frozen Strawberries: Frozen strawberries are typically easy to find, but you can also freeze fresh ones while they’re in season. You can read more about how to freeze fresh fruit in our Kiwifruit sorbet recipe.
Recommended Equipment

- A Juicer: To make this sorbet, you’ll need a cold-pressed juicer such as the Nama J2 Juicer (if you’re currently looking for a new juicer, I’d recommend reading our in-depth review of this juicer, which explains why it’s our favorite).
- A Sorbet Attachment: You’ll also need a sorbet attachment to make this strawberry sorbet.
- An Ice Cube Tray: To freeze the yogurt cubes, use an ice cube tray.

Note: if you don’t have a juicer, be sure to read the section below on how to make this protein strawberry sorbet without a juicer.
How to Make this Protein Strawberry Sorbet With a Juicer (Step by Step)

Start by preparing your frozen dairy-free yogurt cubes. In a small mixing bowl, mix your thick Greek-style dairy free yogurt, maple syrup (omit if the yogurt is sweetened), and plant-based protein powder using a whisk.

Next, transfer the yogurt mix to an ice cube tray (you can use a regular tray) or, to make smaller balls like the ones shown in this recipe, use a different shape and freeze for at least 4 hours or ideally, overnight.

When you’re ready to start making your sorbet, take the yogurt cubes and frozen strawberries out of the freezer and let them thaw for just about 1-2 minutes (make sure they don’t thaw for too long!). Add your sorbet attachment to your juicer, then place the frozen cubes in the juicer’s hopper.

Turn on your juicer. The protein strawberry sorbet will come out of the spout that typically ejects the juice pulp.

Once ready, use an ice cream scoop or spoon to serve the sorbet.
Serving Suggestion & Storage Tips

Enjoy this strawberry protein sorbet by itself or top it with your garnishes and toppings of choice, such as homemade caramel sauce, chopped dark chocolate, whipped coconut cream, or chopped nuts. This sorbet is best served right away, but if you’re planning on serving it later, you can store it in ice cream containers in the freezer, then let it thaw for a few minutes before serving it.
How to Make this Sorbet Without a Juicer

To make this without a juicer, let the frozen fruit and dairy-free yogurt thaw for a few minutes, then add them to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth (you might need to add a little extra unfrozen yogurt while blending.)
